"It's all about keeping warm"

The correct choice of base and middle layer clothing is essential in getting the best performance from your Drysuit

The Thermal Layer System has a direct effect on the moisture transfer rate of your outer garment, proper mid and base layers must be worn to ensure your comfort and to allow the breathable fabric work efficiently.
Trident choose fabrics which transport moisture away from the body whilst absorbing the minimum of water themselves, leaving you comfortable and dry.

Trident’s Base Layer
is manufactured from a fabric, which molecular structure has been altered by a unique, patented process.
It moves moisture by electrochemical transport a much faster means than capillary action.
You work harder, it works harder. sail in a warm gentle breeze which
develops into a wild ride in a howler, the fabric changes, it calibrates itself to your metabolism.

Capillary-action fabrics require a tight fit, but not with Trident.
There's no need to choke, the fabric is wonderfully smooth, and it keeps air next to your skin.

Trident’s Mid Layer Fleece
(which can also be used as a Base Layer)
is manufactured from a soft non absorbent polyester double sided fleece.

a drysuit keeps you dry -
it's your body that keeps you warm &
it's the layers and the Extremity Protection that insulates and keeps your heat in

How to Dress for Winter Sailing?

Think Trident - experienced in Keeping Sailors Warm and Dry  !

  • Wear a Trident Drysuit, keep the water and wind out

  • Wear Trident Thermal System under the drysuit to trap and keep your heat - the layers wick to keep your skin dry from perspiration

  • Head - wear a Trident Snug Hat (remember to take it off if you are getting too hot)

  • Neck -  a lot of heat can be lost through the neck due to the large amount of vascular movement - see our Turtle Neck Thermal Layer & the Neck Warmer

  • Hands - difficult - need to keep protected and yet maintain dexterity - check our Trident Winter Gloves - and the Super Stretch Gloves although do not have as good durability and gripping characteristics with ropes

  • Feet - latex socks on Trident Drysuits ensures there is no restriction of the blood flow to the feet, don’t wear tight socks for the same reason, thermal socks and Trident’s 5mm Neoprene Sailing Boots provide a good thermal system for the feet.
