ABOUT TOPPERS
Over 40,000 Toppers been since
the class was introduced over 20 years ago making it the most successful
bermudan rigged twelve footer ever. It is a testament to the original
design that the class is still as strong as ever today.
The Topper has also become the top racing
class of it's type within the U.K. and because of it's world wide racing
pedigree has attained full international racing status from the
international sailing federation.
Toppers are great as an introductory
boat, they are sailed throughout the U.K. by adults and children alike.
Anyone who is fit and can swim can sail a Topper. Young children can
accompany a parent in the boat making it ideal for teaching children the
fundamentals of sailing.
The boat is virtually unsinkable and is
quick and easy to right after a capsize, the sail can be reefed easily
(even on the water) meaning that in the event of a blow the boat can be
piloted back to with relative ease.
One of the key advantages that the Topper
holds over any pretenders lies in the remarkable sophistication of the
manufacturing process. The Topper hull is injection moulded with high
precision, reaching a level of uniformity that makes the racing a test
of the sailor rather than the machine. The material is polypropylene,
which has proved to combine strength and flexibility with lightness and
