Is It Difficult to Build a Mirror ? NO !
To build a Mirror you will no special skills or tools - normal
household tools are just fine, (an orbital sander and an electric drill
would be a definite asset!) and to build a good Mirror dinghy requires an
investment of approximately 120 to 150 hours. - the one in the photo took 7
days !
The kit you are supplied from us exactly matches the
International Standard. All materials are first-class.
The plywood is
5 mm 3 ply "gaboon" marine plywood which enables the builder to construct a
boat to minimum weight, a very important factor if the boat is to be
raced.
The spars are
gaff made from spruce or fir
the mast is alloy
the boom is alloy
- you could however get a 2pce alloy mast
The sails are our Club Sails
The Mirror Kit has all parts pre cut and ready to assemble with help from
a detailed, easy to read instruction book that is supplied with each kit.
No special frames or jigs are required .
You only need a pair of simple
saw-horses.
NO CUTTING OR SAWING IS REQUIRED UNTIL THE STRINGERS AND GUNWALES HAVE
TO BE CUT TO LENGTH.
Rewarding - from the early stages
The shape of the boat develops in the early stages of construction and
this tends to keep up the enthusiasm and interest of active young helpers!
Kit includes the paint, varnish and resin for the fiberglass tape needed
- but you could just buy the wood parts by themselves
The hull only kit likewise comes complete with polyester resin, glue
and all the fixings needed to complete the hull (copper wire, nails,
screws) and the fibreglass tape to join the plywood seams. If not needed
advise us.
All kits come complete with the I.Y.R.U. compliance sticker and the
sail number carved into the aft transom. A comprehensive
construction manual is included in each kit.
